Excursions

The Giffre Valley has plenty to see and do but within an hours drive are some interesting excursions if you'd like to travel a little further afield.

Annecy

Annecy lies on the shore of the Lac d'Annecy, where water and mountains blend to form one of the most remarkable landscapes in the French Alps. Visitors can spend time on the shores of the lake or exploring 'Old Annecy' - where a colourful market is held 3 mornings a week. Annecy also boasts a stunning castle over-looking the town and lake.

Yvoire

Situated on the shores of lake Geneva, Yvoire occupies a splendid position at the tip of the promontory which separates the 'Petit Lac' and the 'Grand Lac'. Flowers abound in this pituresque village which has retained it's medieval character. The restaurants are renowned for their fish specialities and in the summer the marina is kept busy by yachtsmen from Switzerland and Savoie.

Chamonix

Chamonix is the french mountaineering capital thanks to it's 'Compagnie des guides' and it's proximity to Mont-Blanc. It also attracts many hikers who appreciate it's 310km of footpaths and viewpoints which offer some of the best landscapes the alps has to offer. In the summer several cable cars run to allow excursionists access to the mountains.

Sixt Fer a Cheval - Cascade De Rouget

The village of Sixt is a nature preserve, and the Cascade de Rouget waterfall is located 5 km south of Sixt and a 20 minute drive from the chalet.

The waterfall is breath-taking, and visitors can enjoy the amazing views, and climb on the many rocks at the base of the waterfall.

Evian-les-Bains

Poetically known as the 'pearl of Lake Geneva', Evian is a famous spa town and also a lakeside and climatic resort. Nestling amongst the greenery, there are many opulent public buildings, palace-hotels and a beautiful harbour.

Evian is best known for its water - it is filtered by sand of glacial origin, is cold and low in minerals. The baths for taking a 'treatment' are open from the 1st February to the end of November.
