Mountain Biking

The Riding

Samoens has access to a network of huge descents through stunning Alpine backcountry.

The National Enduro cup is hosted in Samoens each year thanks to the variety of long and narrow descents on offer. The steep and technical lines have catch berms and north shore jumps that are challenging to ride.

The main attraction is the huge number of natural and untouched single track that are epic in scale thanks to the height gains offered between 600m and 2500m. The long descents have extremely varied terrain. Taking the route from Flaine to Samoens, for example, can offer you riding conditions that range from exposed ridgelines to forest switchbacks, rolling meadows and north shore in a single trail.

Whilst some of the riding is extremely challenging, there is also plenty on offer for families or beginners. Heading to Les Carroz you will find as many easy blues and greens as there are reds and blacks with dozens of swoopy trails through the forest.

If you don’t want to explore the mountain then there is also plenty on offer on the valley floor with some lovely tree lined trails that take in riverside paths and lead to cool lakes for a welcome dip.

Practical

The lifts open from June to August so you don’t have to slog your bike up miles of trails to get to the best riding. In the off-season you can get uplifts from Mountain spirit who run a shuttle service to some of the best accessible descents.

We work with a fantastic local company who offer traditional mountain bikes as well as e-bikes and fat bikes, to rent on a daily or half day basis.
