Mountain Biking

Samoëns and the surrounding Grand Massif area are fantastic for cyclists and mountain biking - in total there are over 600km of cycle routes. There are 45 different circuits to choose from and these are catergorised by level of difficulty.

Every level of rider is catered for and the riding is in turn varied, beautiful, hair raising, relaxing and all virtually deserted.

Beginners, for example, can enjoy a gentle 6km riverside trail from Samoens to Morillon.

Experts can tackle the physically demanding "Tour du Haut Giffre", 81 kilometres of trails, climbs and downhills. Everything is thrown in with highly technical single track to open ridgeline climbs on firetracks.

If you just love the speed of the downhills without the pain of the climbs, a number of the ski lifts are open every day in July and August.

We are also only a short drive from the top of the legendary Les Gets and Morzine area. Access to Les Gets is easy from the top of the Col de Joux plane. Ride the lifts all day and return to Samoens with a fantastic technical descent on the single tracks through pine forests.

Road Biking

Road biking is extremely popular with the French who love this area. It's easy to see why. There are so many celebrated routes close to Samoens. The roads are in excellent condition and there are challenging climbs and speedy flats. All with spectacular views.

One could follow in the slipstream of Lance Armstrong when the Tour De France passed through. The tour visits Samoens every few years. The Circuit De Joux-Plane is 74km with a vertical climb of 1620m overall. The ride offers stunning views, tough climbs and long descents. Lance himself said that this was one of the toughest stages during his career.

Use PureChalets as a base to access countless routes and enjoy the facilities of the chalet and our cooking when you get back after a hard day.
